A seven-year-old boy, Jomiloju, has been rescued in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, after his uncle allegedly attempted to use him for a money ritual.
The suspect, 23-year-old Fabiyi Solomon, reportedly confessed in a viral video that he planned to sacrifice the child in a bid to gain wealth.
According to Solomon, he was instructed to bring a family member for the ritual and assured that the boy would only fall sick instead of dying.
“My name is Fabiyi Solomon. I am 23 years old. I was born in Ado Ekiti. I was told to bring someone for the sacrifice, so I decided to bring my younger brother,” Solomon stated in the video.
The shocking incident has raised concerns over the growing cases of ritual killings in Nigeria, often fueled by economic hardship and false beliefs in wealth-generating sacrifices.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the case, but residents of the community have called for swift action against the suspect.
Meanwhile, in Ilorin, Kwara State, an Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, has been arrested alongside four others for the alleged murder of Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education.
According to reports, Ballo lured Yetunde through Facebook before her disappearance on February 10, 2025. The police traced her last phone call to the suspect, leading to his arrest.
During an arraignment at a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, the police alleged that Ballo and his accomplices, all members of an occult group, confessed to killing the student for ritual purposes.
However, in a recorded statement, Ballo claimed responsibility for the murder, insisting that the others were not involved.
The case has sparked outrage, with many calling for stricter measures to curb the rising cases of ritual killings across the country.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
