As the Christmas season approaches, the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, has called on residents of Akure to foster peace and shun anger, emphasizing the need for harmonious living during this festive period.
Speaking at the Christmas Carol and Service of Lessons, themed Peace Like a River, held at the Deji’s Palace, the monarch highlighted that Christmas goes beyond celebrations. He stressed it is a time to reflect on love, peace, and unity in the spirit of Christ’s birth.
In his royal address, Oba Aladetoyinbo urged residents to embody the essence of Christmas, which he described as a message of salvation and goodwill.
“Christmas is not only a time for celebration but also for reflection. We must remember the significance of Jesus Christ’s birth and demonstrate love through peace and unity,” he said.
The monarch emphasized the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation, noting that peace is essential for development in Akure and beyond.
“We should shun anger and embrace love. Let us make peace and spread kindness for the betterment of our kingdom and state,” he added.
Oba Aladetoyinbo also prayed for divine blessings, urging residents to carry the spirit of Christmas—marked by kindness, unity, and hope—into the new year.
Other speakers at the event, including Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, praised the monarch’s initiative, calling on residents to emulate his devotion to peace and gratitude.
In his sermon, Pastor Kayode Olorunfemi encouraged attendees to reconcile with God and others, warning against the destructive nature of anger.
The event featured Bible readings, carols, prayers, and performances by choirs and guest artists, leaving attendees inspired to uphold the values of peace and love throughout the season.
Dignitaries present included the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbenga Olaniyi; a lawmaker representing Akure North, Kolawole Ologede; Akure South Chairman, Gbenga Fasua; and traditional rulers and chiefs from Akure Kingdom.
