Aiyedatiwa Launches New High Court Complex in Ondo State

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to justice and judicial welfare with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new High Court Complex in Akure.

The Judiciary Village, located along Oba Osupa Road, marks a historic milestone for the state, as Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized during the event:
ā€œSince the creation of Ondo State in 1976, no effort has been made to establish a modern judicial edifice. Today, we make history by fulfilling a long-held dream for the judiciary.ā€

The new facility will honor the legacy of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, whose vision inspired the project. The governor announced the naming of the structure as the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex, describing it as a fitting tribute to Akeredolu’s commitment to judicial development.

Despite financial constraints, the governor stressed the necessity of the project, saying:
ā€œThis initiative reflects our resolve to provide a conducive working environment with state-of-the-art facilities to enhance judicial efficiency and expedite justice delivery in Ondo State.ā€

The Judiciary Village will span 13 hectares and feature a ceremonial court, modular courts, a registry, a library, exhibition halls, and modern parking facilities. Awarded to Messrs Westfield Global Construction Company, the project is expected to be completed in 48 weeks.

Chief Judge of Ondo State, Hon. Justice Olusegun Odusola, praised the project as a landmark achievement, stating:
ā€œThis facility will elevate our judiciary to global standards and enhance the administration of justice.ā€

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, commended the governorā€™s focus on judicial infrastructure, adding:
ā€œThis initiative underscores the governorā€™s dedication to accessible justice and the judiciary as a pillar of democracy.ā€

Traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the judiciary attended the event, reflecting widespread support for the transformative project.
