The Anambra State Government has shut down a notorious brothel in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, as part of its Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) initiative.
The brothel, whose name was withheld, was reportedly a hub for underaged sex workers, drug trafficking, armed robbery, and other criminal activities. During a raid conducted by the OCHA Brigade, 10 sex workers, including underaged girls, were rescued.
In a press statement on Thursday, Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, disclosed that the operation followed extensive monitoring and intelligence gathering on the facilityās illegal activities.
āThis operation was carried out after intelligence revealed that the brothel was involved in aiding crimes such as drug trafficking and harboring underaged sex workers,ā Anere said. āIt was also a hideout for armed robbers and other criminal elements.ā
Anere further emphasized the governmentās commitment to ensuring the arrest and prosecution of the brothelās operators to deter others involved in similar illegal activities across the state.
