The Anambra State Government has shut down a notorious brothel in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, as part of its Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) initiative.

The brothel, whose name was withheld, was reportedly a hub for underaged sex workers, drug trafficking, armed robbery, and other criminal activities. During a raid conducted by the OCHA Brigade, 10 sex workers, including underaged girls, were rescued.

In a press statement on Thursday, Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, disclosed that the operation followed extensive monitoring and intelligence gathering on the facilityā€™s illegal activities.

ā€œThis operation was carried out after intelligence revealed that the brothel was involved in aiding crimes such as drug trafficking and harboring underaged sex workers,ā€ Anere said. ā€œIt was also a hideout for armed robbers and other criminal elements.ā€

Anere further emphasized the governmentā€™s commitment to ensuring the arrest and prosecution of the brothelā€™s operators to deter others involved in similar illegal activities across the state.
