The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, marked his 60th birthday with a low-key thanksgiving service at the Chapel of Grace, State Government House, Alagbaka, Akure. The occasion also served as a platform to reflect on his life journey and the sacrifices of fallen heroes.
Speaking during the service, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness and acknowledged the trust placed in him by the people of Ondo State during the 2024 gubernatorial elections, which secured his second term. “No one receives anything except it is given by God. The victory at the poll was not just a testament to the will of the people but a divine mandate,” he said.
The event coincided with the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, with the governor pledging support for the families and dependents of fallen heroes. He urged citizens to contribute to the Nigerian Legion’s Emblem Appeal Fund, emphasizing the need for practical support for veterans, widows, and orphans of military personnel.
In honor of his milestone birthday, Governor Aiyedatiwa granted clemency to 40 prisoners. This act of mercy, endorsed by the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, aligns with the governor’s commitment to justice reform and rehabilitation. Among the beneficiaries, 15 were granted immediate release, while others had their sentences reduced or commuted.
During the service, a minute of silence was observed for the late Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, the immediate past Secretary to the State Government. Governor Aiyedatiwa described him as a loyal and selfless leader.
In his sermon, Bishop Felix Adejumo of Agape Church encouraged gratitude and faithfulness, highlighting the sacrifices of fallen heroes. The service concluded with prayers for the state, the nation, and the dependents of fallen heroes.
Dignitaries present included Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, State APC Chairman Mr. Ade Adetimehin, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji, and other key stakeholders.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s choice to keep celebrations subdued reflected his respect for the recent passing of Hon. Oluwatuyi, demonstrating his commitment to compassion and leadership.
