Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has launched the Emblem Appeal Fund for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to honoring the sacrifices of Nigeria’s military personnel.
The launch event took place at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Akure, signaling the start of activities to commemorate the nation’s fallen heroes and provide support to veterans. Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the emblem as a powerful symbol of appreciation and a commitment to the well-being of ex-servicemen and their families.
“This launch goes beyond ceremony; it is a heartfelt commitment to support our veterans, recognize their sacrifices, and uphold the values they defended,” he stated.
The governor announced a state donation to the Nigerian Legion, Ondo State Chapter, aimed at improving the welfare of widows, dependents of fallen heroes, and injured veterans. He also lauded the security agencies’ professionalism during the recent gubernatorial election, attributing his victory to their dedication.
Governor Aiyedatiwa appealed to individuals, corporate organizations, and institutions to contribute generously to the appeal fund. He thanked supporters of last year’s initiative and encouraged those yet to redeem their pledges to do so promptly.
“We must not neglect the widows and dependents of our fallen heroes. It is our duty to ease their hardships and empower them to lead dignified lives,” he said.
The governor outlined key activities for the remembrance celebration, including a Jummat Service on January 10, a Christian Service on January 12, and a Military Parade and Wreath-Laying Ceremony on January 15, 2025, at the Government Cenotaph in Akure.
“As we proudly wear the emblem, let us honor the fallen, support the living, and remember the sacrifices made for our freedom and democracy,” he urged.
In her address, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Lola Fagbemi, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in improving the lives of ex-servicemen and their families. She called on stakeholders to support the initiative, underscoring the emblem as a tribute to military heroes.
Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ondo State Chapter, Col. Olu Apata (Rtd), commended the state government’s unwavering support and urged citizens to wear the emblem with pride. He reiterated the importance of public and private sector contributions to alleviate challenges faced by veterans and their families.
