Ondo NUJ to Honor Prof. Adegbulugbe, Dr. Osamaye, Hon. Ayebusiwa, NSE President, Crest FM Proprietor, Odudu, Durodola, as Media Week Events Kick off Sunday, Dec. 8th
The Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is gearing up for its 2024 Press Week celebrations, with key dignitaries including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, and others expected to attend the event.
This announcement was made on Tuesday through a press statement issued in Akure by Omosileola Adesoye-Ajayi, Chairman of the 2024 Press Week Organizing Committee, and Fidelis David, the Committee’s Secretary.
The weeklong event, themed “Setting the Agenda Amidst Electioneering Paradox and Elusive Economic Development in Nigeria: The Media as the Fourth Estate of the Realm,” will culminate in a grand finale and award ceremony on Friday, December 13, 2024. The ceremony will be chaired by the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayo Wisdom Olawande.
Alongside Governor Aiyedatiwa and former Governor Mimiko, several distinguished individuals will be honored throughout the event. These include Professor Olusegun Adegbulugbe, renowned educationist and community leader; Engineer Margaret Oguntala, National President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; Dr. Seun Osamaye, Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Women’s Affairs; Hon. Chris Ayebusiwa, lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency 1; Mr. Ayo Durodola, a distinguished media icon and diplomat; and Comrade Ademola Odudu, Ondo State Chairman of the NURTW. Also being honored are Mr. Olumide Origunloye (Proprietor, Crest FM) and Dr. Niyi Ijogun (CEO, Premier Hotels & Global President of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Alumni Association).
The celebrations will begin on Sunday, December 8, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Salvation Gospel International Centre, located off Ilesa Garage Road in Akure.
Throughout the week, events will include a charity visitation, a free medical outreach for journalists and their spouses, and a symposium with lead speakers such as Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (Ondo Central), ZLP Governorship Candidate Dr. Abass Mimiko, APC Chieftain Barr. Olumuyiwa Adu, and Educationist Prof. Olusegun Adegbulugbe.
Governor Aiyedatiwa will serve as the Grand Patron and Special Guest of Honor, officially opening the press week celebrations on Tuesday.
The symposium will be chaired by Hon. Dr. Abiola Makinde, lawmaker representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency. The NUJ National President, Comrade Yahya Alhassan, will serve as the chief host, with Prince Leke Adegbite, Ondo State NUJ Chairman, hosting the event.
Additional activities throughout the week will include a health walk led by Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, a children’s party, indoor games, a novelty football match, and a Jazz/Asun Night.
The celebrations will conclude with a Jumat service at Akure Central Mosque, followed by the highly anticipated Grand Finale, Dinner, and Award Night at the NUJ Press Centre, Alagbaka, Akure.
