The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, has assured residents of enhanced security measures for a peaceful Yuletide season.
Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye announced this while parading 27 suspects arrested for various crimes at the Corps’ headquarters in Akure.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 42, face charges including attempted murder, burglary, and involvement in cult activities. Among them is a 30-year-old man accused of assaulting law enforcement and a 20-year-old linked to a murder without known ties to the victim.
In a media briefing, Akogun Adeleye highlighted recent efforts to uphold law and order and outlined strategies to safeguard the state during the festive period.
“In the last two weeks, we have detained 27 individuals for crimes including malicious damage, cultism, and murder, demonstrating our commitment to combating crime,” he stated.
He noted that Ondo has largely remained peaceful, with no reported incidents involving labor union disputes, student unrest, or chieftaincy conflicts. Issues related to grazing disputes have also been resolved amicably, with herders compensating for damages incurred.
Despite the overall calm in all 18 local government areas, isolated incidents of burglary, food theft, and domestic violence have been observed, attributed partly to the current economic climate.
As the festive season approaches, Akogun Adeleye assured citizens that proactive security measures are in place to address potential threats. He indicated that Amotekun personnel will be stationed at key locations to fill any security gaps left by other agencies.
Since the introduction of the Amotekun Rangers, the Corps has achieved notable success, including the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers in forested areas, where Rangers now maintain a regular presence to deter criminal activity.
“We want to reassure the people of Ondo State that they can go about their daily lives without fear,” the Commander emphasized. “Farmers can tend to their fields, and residents can rest easy, knowing that the state’s security forces are dedicated to their safety as the Yuletide season nears.”
