Three personnel of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, have sustained serious injuries following a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers in the state.
The Commandant of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the incident, stating that the gunmen opened fire on the operatives after realizing they were being trailed.
“No life was lost, but three of our men were severely injured and are currently receiving treatment,” Adeleye said.
The incident occurred shortly after the abduction of seven farmers in Itaogbolu, located in Akure North Local Government Area. The victims were reportedly harvesting palm fruits on Saturday when they were abducted by armed men.
According to the victims’ families, the kidnappers have since reached out and are demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release.
Adeleye reassured the public of the Corps’ unwavering commitment to rescuing the kidnapped farmers.
“We are deep in the forest, sleeping there, and combing every inch to track these criminals. By God’s grace, we will secure their release,” he pledged.
