Onyechi Appolonia Anele, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, has been nominated for the African Iconic Female Spokesperson of the Year Award, in recognition of her professionalism, courage, and dedication to service.
A graduate of University of Jos, she was commissioned into the Nigerian Army in 2007. In April 2025, she made history as the first female spokesperson of the Nigerian military, marking a major step for gender inclusion in the Armed Forces.
Her career includes serving as Public Relations Officer to the Chief of Army Staff and as a United Nations Peacekeeping Officer in Darfur. She also holds advanced degrees from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre and the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Her nomination celebrates excellence, leadership, and the growing impact of women in national service.
