The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi State chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike to demand improved working conditions and better commitment from the university’s administration.
Addressing journalists after an emergency congress at the university’s Yuli Campus in Bauchi, ASUU Chairman, Comrade Awwal Hussain Nuhu, disclosed that the union had exhausted all avenues to engage the university administration and government, but their efforts had yielded no positive results.
“The congress noted the lack of readiness and commitment from the university’s administration and the government to address our demands despite numerous attempts,” Nuhu stated.
Following this, a motion for a total and indefinite strike was moved and unanimously adopted during the congress. Nuhu further announced that the strike commenced at noon on Friday, November 29, 2024.
“All members of ASUU in SAZU are directed to comply. During this strike, no academic activities, including teaching, marking, meetings, or accreditation processes, will take place,” he said.
The union emphasized that the strike would remain in effect until further notice, urging all members to stand firm in the collective decision.
