The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a total and comprehensive two-week warning strike affecting all public universities across Nigeria.
The Union’s National President, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the decision during a press conference on Sunday at the University of Abuja, stating that the action became inevitable due to the federal government’s failure to address lingering issues affecting the university system. He explained that the 14-day ultimatum earlier issued on September 28, 2025, had expired without any meaningful response from the relevant authorities.
According to Professor Piwuna, all ASUU branches nationwide have been directed to commence a full withdrawal of services starting from midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025. He emphasized that the strike would be total and comprehensive, in line with the resolution reached at the union’s most recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, adding that the union remains committed to defending the integrity and welfare of Nigeria’s public universities.
