The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has instructed all its members to participate in a peaceful prayer procession on August 29. This directive was issued by Mr. Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NLC General Secretary, in a letter to affiliates and state councils, titled “Mobilisation for Peaceful Procession and Prayer Session in Solidarity.”

The call for the procession is a response to the recent invitation extended by the Police to Joe Ajaero, the NLC President. Ajaero is being called in for questioning over allegations of “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime,” which the NLC believes to be unfounded.

Ugboaja has urged all NLC affiliates and state councils to mobilize their members. In Abuja, Central Working Committee members and other members are asked to assemble at the NLC National Headquarters by 8:00 a.m. on August 29 to accompany Ajaero to the Police. In state capitals, members should gather at their respective state secretariats and proceed to their State Police Headquarters for a prayer session while awaiting the conclusion of Ajaero’s interaction with the Police.

The NLC aims to demonstrate solidarity and protest against what it perceives as an attempt to intimidate its leadership and suppress the voice of Nigerian workers.
