The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has restated his commitment to decisively end insurgency in the North East.

He made this known during his maiden operational assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), from 6โ7 November 2025 in Maiduguri.

General Shaibu commended troops for their resilience, courage, and renewed momentum in tackling terrorism. He also praised the Theatre Command for adopting innovative strategies that are improving counterinsurgency operations.

The Army Chief pledged improved welfare, motivation, and administration for personnel across all theatres, describing these as key to achieving operational effectiveness. He further assured that the Nigerian Army will continue to strengthen its logistics and combat capabilities to restore lasting peace in the region.

During his visit, the COAS paid a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, and appreciated the traditional ruler and people of the state for their support and intelligence cooperation.
He also commissioned new welfare projects within Maimalari Cantonment, including 30 one-bedroom flats for corporals and below, and the OPHK Heroes Transit Accommodation โ both under the โSoldier First Conceptโ to enhance troop welfare.
