The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has announced plans to comprehensively overhaul the Nigerian Army’s training curriculum and operational framework to enhance professionalism, adaptability, and combat readiness. The move is aimed at strengthening the Army’s capacity to effectively respond to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges while improving institutional resilience.
Shaibu disclosed this during his closing remarks at the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2025 held in Lagos, according to a statement by the Army spokesperson, Col. Onyechi Anele. He said the overhaul would involve realigning training, operations, logistics, and administrative processes with his command philosophy to ensure the Army remains effective in joint and multi-agency operations.
The COAS emphasized a total review of training curricula across all Army institutions, stressing the need for realistic and mission-oriented training that directly impacts operational effectiveness. He noted that the conference provided an opportunity to assess the Army’s performance in 2025 and would guide future reforms, especially in areas such as intelligence, surveillance, cyber operations, and technological innovation.
On troop welfare, Shaibu reiterated his commitment to addressing accommodation challenges in Army barracks nationwide through completion of ongoing projects and initiation of new housing schemes. He also highlighted post-service housing initiatives for soldiers and appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his continued support, reaffirming the Army’s loyalty to the Constitution and the President.
