In a violent confrontation, commercial motorcyclists stormed a police station in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, accusing the police of shielding a driver involved in a reckless driving incident that damaged a motorcyclistās bike.
Reports indicate that the aggrieved motorcyclists not only assaulted officers on duty but also confiscated the mobile phone of a senior police official during the altercation.
A senior police officer explained that the trouble began after the police responded to a fatal accident on Epinmi Road, transporting victims to the hospital. Shortly after, a crowd of motorcyclists arrived at the station, demanding access to the driver involved in the crash.
āWe were addressing the situation when the motorcyclists, numbering about 100, began attacking officers with sticks and seized a phone. Despite efforts to manage the chaos, the situation escalated,ā the officer said.
Two of the attackers have since been apprehended, according to another senior officer.
The Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, has condemned the attack, expressing deep concern over the violent incident at the station.
