Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly criticized the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba, amid heightened political tensions between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
In a series of heated posts on social media, Davido accused the police commissioner of bias and failing to uphold the rule of law. He warned that the people would not accept any injustice, stating:
“Mr Commissioner, respect the rule of law!!! You are not madder or crazier than us!! Make we all kuku mad!! MEN MOUNT WALAI TO KRF!!! I will post you every day everywhere, Mr Man!!!”
His remarks follow violent clashes between APC and PDP supporters over the control of local government secretariats. The crisis escalated after the Osun State government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, ordered the reinstatement of PDP local government chairmen who were earlier removed.
The unrest took a deadly turn when gunmen attacked and killed Remi Abass, the reinstated PDP Chairman of Irewole Local Government, as he arrived at the council secretariat. Security forces later arrested several suspected thugs allegedly responsible for the violence.
Governor Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, accused APC leaders, including former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of attempting to create instability in the state. Adeleke alleged that Oyetola had given unlawful directives to security agencies to enforce the return of sacked APC chairmen.
In response to the crisis, police and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives were deployed to restore order. However, Davido expressed dissatisfaction with the police response, accusing Commissioner Umar Abba of failing to protect PDP members.
Despite his initial outburst, Davido later made a U-turn, praising the police commissioner for his efforts in stabilizing the situation.
The Osun State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding Davido’s accusations or the broader security situation in the state. However, political analysts warn that the ongoing tensions could escalate further if not properly managed.
