The Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, has expressed his support for the recent Court of Appeal ruling, which affirmed his role as the prescribed authority for appointing minor chiefs, Olus, Baa-les, and Olojas in both Akure North and South.
The Court upheld the earlier decision made by Justice A. Osadebay, confirming the Deji’s jurisdiction over both regions, despite the bifurcation of the old Akure Local Government.
The unanimous verdict from the three-judge panel dismissed the appeals brought forward by the Oloba of Oba Ile, the Okiti of Iju, and the Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, who had sought to challenge the decision. The appellants were ordered to pay a cost of one million naira (N1,000,000.00) to the Deji of Akure.
In his response, Oba Aladetoyinbo emphasized that the ruling is a victory for the unity and progress of Akure, stating that there is “no victor, no vanquished.” He reassured the people of Akure that despite any challenges, the kingdom will remain united and continue to grow.
