Beatrice Ekweremadu, the wife of Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has been released from a UK prison.

Mrs. Ekweremadu, who was sentenced to four years and six months in prison in 2023 for her involvement in an organ trafficking case, regained her freedom earlier this week. She has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Abuja.

Her release has sparked jubilation in her hometown of Mpu, located in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. Community members expressed immense joy at her return, with local leaders describing her release as a relief for the Ekweremadu family and community at large.

Meanwhile, her husband, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, remains in the UK, serving a nine-year and eight-month sentence related to the same case.

The news of Mrs. Ekweremadu’s release has been widely reported, with many Nigerians offering prayers and support for the family.
