Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has dismissed the recent Federal High Court judgement barring him from recontesting for the governorship as an unnecessary distraction.
Speaking during a live interview, the governor clarified that he has never declared interest in running for another governorship election, stressing that there is currently no timetable for any election in Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa explained that the court case was not initiated by him, but by other individuals seeking clarification on his eligibility under the constitution. He added that his main priority remains delivering on the mandate given to him by the people after the November 16, 2024 governorship election.
The governor also dismissed rumours of a political rift with the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stating that both remain members of the same political family and that politics often involves differing interests.
On allegations that he is pushing some politicians out of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Aiyedatiwa said the party is instead expanding its structure. According to him, the number of stakeholders participating in party meetings has increased significantly since he assumed office.
He further noted that his legal team will carefully study the court judgement before deciding whether to challenge it at higher courts.
The governor maintained that his focus remains governance and fulfilling the promises made to the people of Ondo State.
