
Ā In a significant act of clemency marking his inauguration, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has pardoned 43 inmates across various correctional facilities.
This decision, announced on Monday, February 24, 2025, reflects the governorās commitment to reformative justice and humane governance.
The pardons were granted following recommendations from the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN.
The councilās assessment led to the immediate release of eight individuals. Additionally, 15 inmates previously sentenced to death by hanging have had their sentences commuted to various prison terms, while 20 others serving life sentences have received reduced terms.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that this initiative aligns with his administrationās efforts to address issues within the penal system and promote the reintegration of reformed individuals into society. He stated, āIt is His Excellencyās responsibility to ensure that our justice system reflects mercy and humanity.ā
