The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially reinstated Sylvester Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in compliance with a Supreme Court judgment.
This development was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee.
Olumekun explained that the commission held a meeting earlier in the day to address the longstanding leadership dispute within APGA, which has been at the center of legal battles for some time.
The Supreme Court, in its judgment delivered on November 27, 2024, under Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024, ruled in favor of Ezeokenwa as the rightful chairman of the party.
The statement reads:
“The commission met today, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, and among other matters, discussed the leadership issue in the All Progressives Grand Alliance, which has been the subject of litigation.
“The commission has been served with the judgment of the Supreme Court, Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS, delivered on November 27, 2024, recognizing Barr. Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of the party.
In compliance with the judgment of the apex court, the commission has restored Barr. Ezeokenwa as the Chairman of APGA and updated his name on our website accordingly.”
The resolution marks the end of the protracted leadership tussle within APGA and reaffirms Ezeokenwa’s position as the legitimate leader of the party.
