Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appealed to landlords and property owners in Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area (LGA) to avoid raising rents and property prices, emphasizing the need to ease the burden on residents.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga road on Monday, the governor highlighted that the infrastructure projects undertaken by his administration aim to improve the quality of life for citizens, not impose additional financial strain.
“I appeal to landlords and landowners: do not increase your rents or property prices. These infrastructure developments are meant to bring relief, not burden residents further,” Sanwo-Olu said. He urged property owners to allow residents to fully benefit from the new amenities, following years of enduring poor living conditions.
The 643-meter road project, which began on October 24, 2022, includes a bridge with slip roads that replaces a swampy area previously accessed via a makeshift wooden bridge for a fee. Sanwo-Olu noted that the new infrastructure addresses longstanding challenges like flooding and commuting difficulties.
In addition to the road inauguration, the governor also commissioned the Alapere pedestrian bridge in Kosofe LGA. The bridge, damaged by a truck in December 2023, has been rebuilt to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing meaningful projects that directly improve the lives of Lagos residents.
