The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced an indefinite strike set to begin on December 1, 2024, in Zamfara State and other states where the new minimum wage of ā¦70,000 has not been implemented.
This decision follows the failure of some state governments, including Zamfara, to comply with the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, despite rising economic hardships faced by workers.
The NLC Zamfara State Council, backed by all affiliated unions, issued an ultimatum to the state government to implement the new wage by the end of November. The union condemned the non-compliance as a violation of workersā rights and a disregard for federal law. This directive aligns with resolutions from the NLCās National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held earlier this month in Rivers State.
The union has urged workers to prepare for the industrial action, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring fair compensation for Nigerian workers amid escalating inflation and economic challenges.
