The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has detained Abu Umar, a 19-year-old suspect accused of orchestrating the abduction of a woman and her two children in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin on Monday, the state commandant, Umar Mohammed, confirmed the arrest, describing the incident as a “deliberate and coordinated effort.” The suspect was allegedly involved in the November 7 kidnapping of Isiaka Halimah and her sons, Kabir and Hassan, in the Gidanrogo area of Ajase-Ipo.
According to Mohammed, the arrest followed extensive intelligence work by the command. Investigations revealed that Umar, a former employee of the victims’ family, facilitated the crime by allowing the kidnappers to use his phone to contact the family.
While Halimah has since been released, her two children remain in captivity. Mohammed assured the public of ongoing efforts to secure their safe return, emphasizing the NSCDC’s commitment to addressing criminal activities and ensuring public safety.
“We are collaborating with other security agencies to rescue the remaining children and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he stated.
