The Ondo State Government has commenced the distribution of essential farm inputs to farmers across the state as part of its preparations for the 2025 planting season. The initiative, aimed at bolstering food security and supporting local agricultural activities, underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing productivity in the sector.

The distribution, which occurred over the weekend in Akure, featured a variety of agrochemicals, including Atrashi, Organic Coco, Cijfertex Insecticide, Fieldklear, Dragon, Clyphotex, and Super Gro.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Rotimi Akinsola, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture and Agri-Business, and Chairman of the State Committee on Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized the initiative’s role in boosting farmer productivity while acknowledging their significant contributions. He also called for additional support from donor agencies to further enhance agricultural practices across the state.

Akinsola highlighted Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s agri-business strategy, which focuses on transitioning farming activities from reserves to community lands. He explained that this approach would lead to job creation, economic growth, and reduced unemployment.

“Our priority for next year is primary production at both senatorial and cluster farms, with a focus on farming as a business,” Akinsola stated.

He assured landowners of the government’s respect for their rights, referencing an executive order signed by the governor that prohibits land grabbing. Agreements with communities and traditional rulers will be properly documented to ensure transparency and mutual benefit.

“These lands will be utilized for government programs and investor initiatives, with annual compensation paid to the landowners,” he added.

Mr. Frankline Fadoju, Chairman of Agbeladun Agricultural Empowerment, lauded the initiative, describing it as a transformative step toward positioning Ondo State as an agriculturally driven economy. He praised the governor’s commitment to farmers and affirmed their collective dedication to reducing dependence on oil.

The initiative, which aligns with the government’s broader food security agenda, is expected to have a lasting impact on the state’s agricultural sector and its economic development.
