Tension rocked Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday as some irate youths allegedly assaulted the town’s traditional ruler, Oba Moses Bakare, alongside his wife and son, Victor.

The incident, which occurred during the annual New Yam festival, reportedly left the monarch injured. His wife was said to have been beaten and stripped half-naked by the angry youths.

Although the exact cause of the attack remains unclear, a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that there had been lingering discontent between some members of the community and the monarch.

“The youths pounced on the Oba, his wife, and his son. We don’t know the real reason behind the assault, but it’s no secret that some of them have not been in support of the Oba,” the source disclosed. “If not for the timely intervention of security agents, the situation could have escalated into a full-blown crisis.”

Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said investigations were ongoing.

“The case is under investigation, and we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure justice is served,” he stated.
