The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed claims that a police station in the state was attacked by commercial motorcyclists, labeling the reports as unfounded and misleading.
In a statement issued in Akure, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, clarified that no police division in Ondo State had experienced such an incident, urging residents to disregard the false narrative intended to incite unnecessary panic.
The police provided clarity regarding the misunderstanding, which arose from an accident involving a motorcyclist along Epinmi Road. The accident led to the motorcyclist’s death and injuries to a passenger. The driver involved had reported the incident at the Oka Division, and officers promptly attended to the situation.
The motorcyclist’s body was moved to a morgue in Oka, while the injured passenger received medical attention.
A group of motorcyclists followed the police to the station, demanding the release of the driver. However, after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) explained the need for due legal procedures, the group dispersed peacefully.
“It is disheartening that an online platform would publish a fabricated story without verifying the facts, stirring unwarranted tension in the state,” the statement read.
The Command reassured the public of its commitment to peace and security, with Commissioner of Police Abayomi Peter Oladipo promising heightened measures to ensure a safe festive season.
Residents were urged to rely on verified information and avoid spreading false news.
