The Ondo State Police Command has busted a human trafficking syndicate disguising its operations as job recruitment and social media content creation in Akure.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arrested Jayeola Joshua, of Alagbaka, Akure, along with two others. The suspects allegedly lured young women from different parts of the country with fake promises of employment opportunities, including ushering, domestic work, and overseas placements.
Police investigations revealed that the victims, numbering 15 and aged between 20 and 26, were housed in an apartment in Alagbaka, which served as the base of operations for the illicit activities.
According to the police, the suspects coerced the victims into sharing explicit photos and videos under the guise of creating “relationship content” for social media. These materials were allegedly sent to clients paying for illegal activities, while the prime suspect took the largest share of the proceeds.
Further investigations showed that the apartment was rented solely to facilitate the crime. The Commissioner of Police has directed that the landlords be invited for questioning as part of ongoing inquiries.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens, especially young women, from criminal networks preying on their search for legitimate opportunities.
