Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is set to present the 2025 budget proposal to the State House of Assembly today. Preparations for the presentation have been finalized following the completion of pre-treasury discussions by all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with the State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
In anticipation of this, members of the State House of Assembly, originally scheduled to resume on December 17, have been recalled from recess for an urgent session at 9 a.m. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Speaker, Chief Olamide Oladiji, who noted the need to address pressing legislative matters.
The Ondo State Assembly previously approved a ₦395 billion budget for 2024, covering both recurrent and capital expenditures. Lawmakers increased the executive’s initial proposal by over ₦10 billion. In October 2024, a supplementary budget of ₦96 billion was also passed, raising the total budget for the year to ₦492.045 billion. The adjustment aimed to address inflationary pressures and the implementation of the new minimum wage.
Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, emphasized that the upward review of the budget was essential to achieve the government’s developmental goals. He explained that unforeseen financial pressures had exhausted earlier allocations, necessitating additional funds for critical projects.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Chief Olatunji Oshati, confirmed the House’s readiness to receive the 2025 budget proposal from the executive. The proposed budget is expected to reflect the state government’s priorities for economic development and social welfare.
