āIn a significant crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, the Ondo State taskforce on forestry and produce has seized a truck loaded with illegal timber and arrested the driver. The operation was led by Special Assistant on Forestry and Produce, Ondo South Comrade Bidemi Joshua Obayagban.
The truck, which was transporting illegal timber from the Omotosho forest area in Okitipupa local government area, was intercepted at Igbotako. The timber was bound for suspected illegal sawmills, but the driver was unable to provide valid documents to justify the transport.

As a result, the truck and its cargo were confiscated and handed over to the Amotekun corps for further action. Obayagban, who led the operation, issued a stern warning to all those involved in illegal timber trade within the district.
He cautioned truck owners to ensure that their vehicles are not used for transporting timber without necessary transit passes and documents. āWe are determined to dismantle the network involved in illegal timber smuggling,ā he said. āThe seizure of this consignment is a result of our concerted efforts with citizens. The preservation of our forests is vital, and those responsible for such illegal activities will be brought to justice.ā

Obayagban also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to illegal timber trade.
