The Osun State Government has announced plans to recruit 1,000 new personnel into the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, to bolster security across the state.
The recruitment drive, according to the state government, is part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security and ensure the safety of lives and property in Osun.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi (retd.), stated that the recruitment process will be transparent and merit-based. He added that the move aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to addressing rising security challenges in the region.
“This initiative demonstrates the government’s proactive approach to ensuring peace and stability in all parts of Osun State. We encourage capable and passionate individuals to join the Amotekun Corps and contribute to safeguarding our communities,” Adewinbi said.
He assured the public that the newly recruited personnel would undergo comprehensive training in line with the corps’ mandate of community policing and intelligence gathering.
Residents of Osun State have welcomed the decision, describing it as a timely intervention to curb crime and maintain order, particularly in rural areas.
The recruitment comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of the South-West region, with the Amotekun Corps playing a critical role in combating criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and herdsmen clashes.
Interested candidates are expected to meet the eligibility requirements and undergo rigorous screening before being enlisted. The government has promised to announce the application process and timeline in the coming days.
