Governors elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of manipulating the outcomes of the recent governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

This claim was made during an extraordinary session of the PDP Governors Forum held on Saturday in Jos, Plateau State.

The governors condemned the Edo State governorship election as a ā€œrape of democracy,ā€ asserting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had manipulated the results to favor the APC candidate, despite the PDPā€™s Mr. Asue Ighodalo securing the majority of lawful votes.

ā€œWe are still reviewing documents related to the Ondo election, where results were allegedly tampered with after widespread vote-buying by the APC,ā€ the PDP governors stated.

Additionally, the forum issued a February 2025 deadline to the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

The governors called on the judiciary to intervene and safeguard Nigerian democracy. They also urged the National Assembly to review the countryā€™s electoral laws to prevent future manipulation and ensure the will of the people is upheld.

The meeting was attended by several PDP governors, including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), as well as deputy governors Monday Onyeme (Delta) and Ifeanyi Ossai (Enugu).
