The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit across the country. This decision comes in response to a court order from the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, which directed the police and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to halt enforcement and respect ongoing judicial proceedings.
The court’s interim order was issued during a hearing in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, filed by John Aikpokpo-Martins.
Speaking on the matter during an interview with AIT, FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed that the police had officially received the court order and would comply fully by putting enforcement on hold.
Adeh emphasized that the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of the legal process. She explained that the tinted glass permit policy was originally introduced for security reasons, as some criminals were using darkened vehicle windows to evade detection.
“We are enforcers, not lawmakers,” she said, noting that the permit was intended to help law enforcement combat crime more effectively. However, she reaffirmed the police’s respect for judicial authority, stating that the force would await the court’s final verdict before taking further action.
