Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, described the NUJ as a crucial partner in the state’s progress. He emphasized the media’s role as a bridge between the government and the people and encouraged journalists to maintain professionalism amidst challenges such as quackery and misinformation. The Governor also assured the press of continued support from his administration.

A key feature of the event was a public lecture and panel discussion on the theme: “Setting Agenda Amidst Electioneering Paradox and Elusive Economic Development in Nigeria: The Media as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.” The lead speaker, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu, highlighted the impact of ethnicity on Nigeria’s political and economic stagnation, calling for reforms. Dr. Abbass Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, represented by Barrister Kayode Taiwo, underscored the media’s pivotal role in advocating for accountability and democracy.

Prince Leke Adegbite, the NUJ Ondo State Chairman, appealed for federal and state interventions to stabilize media organizations, particularly Owena Press. He also requested the appointment of more NUJ members as permanent secretaries.

The event saw Hon. Abiola Makinde, representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, praising the press as a cornerstone of free speech and national development.

Additionally, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ondo State Chapter, Ademola Odudu, received an award of excellence as the Distinguished Ondo State Peace Ambassador of the Year.
