Governor Aiyedatiwa Reaffirms Commitment to Education and Healthcare
The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has praised the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, for its remarkable achievements over the past decade. Speaking during the institution’s 6th Convocation Ceremony on Friday, the Governor highlighted UNIMED’s role in advancing education and healthcare in the state.
As part of the celebrations, Governor Aiyedatiwa performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the university’s ₦1 billion Senate Building, describing it as a strategic investment in the institution’s future.
“The quality of infrastructure and human resources in an institution like UNIMED is critical. This Senate Building will symbolize our shared commitment to excellence in education and healthcare,” he stated.
The Governor also commended the university’s leadership, staff, and students for their contributions to its growth. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support, noting the approval of ₦500 million as the first tranche for the Senate Building project and ₦250 million in counterpart funding for the Olu Akinkugbe Faculty of Pharmacy
The convocation ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary degrees on notable figures, including the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo; former Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; and Chief Isaac Akintade. Additionally, Oba Kiladejo was formally installed as the university’s new Chancellor.
In his address to graduates, Governor Aiyedatiwa encouraged them to uphold the values of compassion, innovation, and lifelong learning as they embark on their professional journeys.
UNIMED Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, emphasized the university’s progress over the past decade, celebrating its growth, innovation, and academic excellence. He highlighted the institution’s success in producing three cohorts of medical doctors, reflecting its commitment to addressing contemporary educational and professional needs.
Prof. Fatusi also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his financial support, which has significantly contributed to the university’s infrastructure and development.
As UNIMED enters its next phase, the Senate Building project and other initiatives underscore its dedication to sustaining its reputation as a leader in medical education and healthcare delivery.
