In the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, accused of a N110.4 billion fraud, a key witness has provided testimony shedding light on a significant transaction involving one of Belloā€™s alleged accomplices. The witness revealed that the accomplice sought a refund of N550 million related to a property deal.

According to the witness, the accomplice had initially invested N550 million in a property located at No. 35 Danube Street, Maitama District, Abuja. However, due to undisclosed complications, the accomplice later requested a full refund of the amount invested. This transaction has become a focal point in the prosecutionā€™s case, as it may provide insights into the alleged misappropriation of state funds during Belloā€™s tenure as governor.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Bello and his co-defendants with multiple counts of criminal breach of trust and money laundering. The prosecution alleges that state funds were illicitly used to acquire properties and for personal enrichment. Bello and his co-accused have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial continues as the court examines further evidence and testimonies to determine the veracity of the allegations against the former governor and his associates.
