The Ondo State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered a firearm during a midnight raid on Amurin Forest along the Owo–Ifon axis of the state.
The operation, conducted around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, was part of efforts to track down those behind the killing of the late Superintendent of Police (Supol) James Ogunleye and recover his stolen service rifle.
The arrested suspects are Friday Monday, Ashimi Wahab, James Odina, Ibrahim Idris, and Prince Areeh. A single-barrel gun loaded with a live cartridge was recovered from them.
Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola confirmed that the suspects are in custody and undergoing interrogation to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers for their professionalism and ordered an expanded investigation to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasizing that the police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ondo State.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
