The Ondo State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against cultism with the arrest of five suspected cultists in Akungba Akoko.
Acting on credible intelligence from vigilant residents, operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad stormed a residential building on March 27, 2026, where the suspects were reportedly holding a secret meeting and chanting cult-related slogans, raising concerns over public safety.
The operatives swiftly secured the area and apprehended the suspects identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele, and Akeju Idowu.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity, a cult group linked to violent crimes, unlawful gatherings, and threats to public peace.
The suspects are currently in custody and have provided useful information aiding ongoing investigations. Efforts are underway to uncover other members of the network and prevent any planned criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police commended the swift response of the operatives and the cooperation of the public, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in crime prevention.
He reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism and other criminal activities, assuring residents of continued intelligence-driven operations to maintain peace and security across the state.
The public, especially youths, is advised to avoid cult-related activities, while parents and guardians are urged to guide their wards appropriately.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
