Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has signed the N698.659 billion 2025 budget into law, marking a significant step in his administration’s efforts to address socio-economic challenges and rebuild the state’s economy. Dubbed the “Budget of Recovery,” the fiscal plan prioritizes critical sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and social welfare.
The signing ceremony, held at the Executive Council Chamber in Akure, was attended by Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, state lawmakers, executive council members, and other stakeholders.
The budget allocates N433.622 billion (62.06%) for capital expenditure and N265.037 billion (37.94%) for recurrent expenses. Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the capital-heavy budget reflects his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.
Stakeholder Contributions
Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that the budget was crafted with input from stakeholders during town hall meetings, ensuring it aligns with the aspirations of Ondo State residents. The administration also plans to bolster the Ondo State Bureau of Statistics to enhance data-driven policymaking.
Key Legislative Backing
The Governor commended the Ondo State House of Assembly for increasing the budget from N655.230 billion to N698.659 billion to address growing state needs. Speaker Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji praised the Governor’s dedication and highlighted new legislative frameworks, including the Agriculture Law, Transparency Law, and Anti-Land Grabbing Law, which promote governance and safeguard citizens’ rights.
Transparency and Accessibility
Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal discipline, announcing that the budget would be accessible on the state’s portal from January 1, 2025.
He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and security agencies to continue their support, expressing optimism for a brighter future centered on economic development, sustainable food security, and social inclusion.
